I’m putting the final touches to my salesletter for one of my new projects. Unable to suppress the excitement, as usual I showed it to one of my close friends who is not in the internet marketing niche. But I know he is a targeted buyer for the product.

I told him to be blunt and not to care about my feelings. Well here we go.

4 Tips From A Targeted Buyer

1. The first thing he said was he doesn’t trust these kind of sites. He means the graphic header with Red Tahoma Headline at the bottom. Without reading further, he said those kind of websites makes him think SCAM!

Well that’s a hard one to fix. I’m not sure if I’m going to change it because it does work according to all the test done by internet marketing experts. Maybe I’ll tone it down a bit (smaller headlines and less hype) and split test it. He could be right. Never know unless you test.

2. But he did say my photograph near the headline was good. It gave him a feeling of trust. Bingo…at least I look trustworthy :-)

3. Next, he loves the Skype logo I placed near the order button where the visitor can talk to me or order via phone. My friend rarely buys online but he said that Skype button comforted him a lot.

4. And finally, he said my testimonials are useless. He said he never believes in testimonials because the seem made up and fake.

Realizing the importance of testimonials in salesletters, I challenged him and said that it works with the majority of people and that he was an exception. He just asked me what the point was for asking his feedback if I don’t take all his comments seriously.

So I asked him what kind of testimonials made him buy. He said if he sees a lot of people in forums or social networks talk about the product, then he’ll buy. SOCIAL PROOF!!!

I showed him a revised version of my salesletter where I pasted some made-up comments from social networks, forums etc… (they’re made up because I haven’t announced it to the public yet). His reaction was “Yup. That definitely works a lot better”.

Have you asked other people outside the internet marketing niche to read your salesletter? They are the majority you’re selling to so their advice is GOLD. And so are my findings above. Read them again and improve your sales conversion.
