Must-Have Social Marketing Tool

I came across a site which I was very impressed with. It’s not new, but I’ll still mention it since not everyone knows about everything.
The site is called Social Marker. And it’s a hell of a tool.
It’s a bookmarking site that helps you submit your webpage or blog post to around 47 bookmarking sites. This is the only service which I know does this with this many websites and it’s free!
It even includes my favourites StumbleUpon, Propeller, Digg, Sphinn, Technorati and Reddit. It’s like someone read my mind and built this tool for me
Here’s what you do:
1. Go to this social bookmarking service at http://www.socialmarker.com
2. Sign up for all 47 social bookmarking sites. This will take you a long time if you haven’t signed up for most of them. For someone completely new, I would foresee spending 2 days at least to sign up for all these bookmarking sites.
But trust me on this. It’s well worth your time to do this.
3. Now when whenever you have an article written, or written an excellent blog post, use the Social Marker service which is online to submit to all the 47 social bookmarking sites.
This service has saved me a considerable amount of time.
I’m not sure why social marker is providing this as a free service because they can certainly charge for it. Anyway, jump on this service now and make a difference to your traffic.
A little side note: With social bookmarking, I notice that the traffic from StumbleUpon is very good. Good in the sense that there’s lots of them and better quality than Digg.
Digg will bring you shit loads of traffic if you’re on the first page, but the quality of the traffic is very bad.

I’ve been using social marker, and comparing it to onlywire, I think that onlywire is better for me.
Social marker takes way too much to update social websites with your blogs new information, since you have to manually go to each website and do it yourself.
Onlywire on the other hand, just makes you hit the submit button once, and sends your information. Not to as many sites as social marker, but I’d rather press the button once, then press the button a considerable amount of times.
That’s why I let my readers do the bookmarking for me. That way, I don’t have to worry too much about it.
I want to tell you that submitting your own content over and over is absolutely the worst thing you can do on social bookmarking sites.
I have tested this heavily and if your profile is full of nothing but your own domain then this is found to be a negative indicator to Google.
Also I have found that if you submit to all the bookmarking sites at almost the same time you get very little credit in Google. Think about it, if your site was actually submitted by different users at all these sites then the timestamp would not be within minutes of each other.
I did a test. My friend blogged an article on Blogger and did not submit to any social sites. I published my own article about the same time. I submitted to all my social sites within 10 minutes of one another. His article was #1 on blogsearch for 2 days, mine never even showed up. My blog is way more powerful. 2000 links, PR 3 and a 19 in Technorati. His no links, PR 0 and nothing in Technorati.
In another test we published one of my articles and then over the course of 24 hours added the post to social bookmarking sites. I went to Websearch the next day top ten and held #1 on Blogsearch for a week.
I call this natural progression and it is so far a true story. I believe that Google is testing social bookmarking sites as a indicator of a blog quality in preparation to buy Digg and begin using them as another blog ranking tool.
Matthew,
I use Onlywire too. It’s one of the tools I use when I create a very good blog post (linkbait) or when I submit an article.
For SocialMarker you can exclude the sites listed on Onlywire. But I totally agree, it’s something very time consuming and which definitely needs outsourced. Anyway I use both of them.
I’m going through Jack Humphrey training on social bookmarking from his membership site Authority Site Center. So far it has worked but, holy cow, it does require work. No pain, no gain.
Chris,
Glad to see you posting here and an excellent post as well.
I agree that posting your just your own stuff will get you banned and penalized with some sites. That’s we should bookmark other sites as well.
Your testing with your friend’s Blogger was very interesting and valuable. It makes sense regarding the natural progression thing.
However, your friend’s blog with no links, PR and nothing in Technorati is surprising. Any analysis of why it did better than yours (apart from not submitting to the social sites)? This is very great stuff.
